Apply for Jobs Early

Finance, Personal/Family-Related, Tips

When it comes to working for the university, as far as I know it’s not difficult to get a job. I have a friend who saw that the Cook Cafe was hiring on the website and she got the job relatively quickly. (http://studentwork.rutgers.edu/ = the website where you can find non-work study as well as work study jobs). But if you’re gonna apply somewhere in the area or on College Ave, don’t wait until the last minute.

I learned this first-hand at home applying for jobs. I live around the Atlantic City area and other than working on the boardwalk in Ocean City, there was nothing that was hiring, so I was applying for jobs from April until a few weeks ago until I finally got an interview/job. It was stressful and annoying, and I probably should have started looking around spring break. I’m sure it’s the same experience at school because there will probably be a mad rush of people who want to work at certain places and they’ll all apply at the same time. So if you have the ability, go up to New Brunswick and start going into places and applying now. Even if you have a car and can apply places outside of New Brunswick, maybe it’s better to do it as soon as you can because I know people who work at Bridgewater Commons, so there are opportunities there and places like it, as well.

When it comes to work-study, I don’t have much knowledge about it, myself… but if anyone has any questions, this is the main website:http://studentwork.rutgers.edu/new/FWSMenustudent.htm. It probably explains things better than I could.

To sum it up: If you want a job in New Brunswick not associated with work-study or the university, apply early and make sure you get yourself in there. If you’re having issues with work-study, call or email someone who can help you as soon as possible so you don’t have any problems
